How to Track Add-to-Cart from an AI Chat Widget (ATC Attribution)
See which chat product cards drive cart adds. How Rivet’s add-to-cart attribution works, what the funnel means, and how to turn it on in Selling.
If your chat shows product cards but you cannot tell whether anyone added to cart, you are flying blind. Add-to-cart attribution connects chat card views and clicks to successful cart adds so you know which products and chats move the needle.
What is chat add-to-cart attribution?
In Rivet Chat, when a shopper interacts with a product card in the widget, Rivet can record events such as:
- Card / product views in chat
- Add-to-cart clicks from the card
- Successful adds (when the cart action completes)
Dashboard → Selling surfaces a simple funnel (for example 7-day and 30-day) and top products so you can see chat-driven ATC — not only “messages sent.”
Why attribution matters
Support metrics (tickets closed) do not equal sales metrics. For a storefront AI sales assistant, the useful questions are:
- Did the page-aware pitch get seen?
- Did shoppers click Add to cart from chat?
- Which products convert from chat?
Without ATC attribution, product cards are a feature without a scoreboard.
How to turn on ATC tracking in Rivet
- Make sure product cards work: sync Shopify products (handles/URLs) and enable page-aware cards if you sell on PDPs. Guide: page-aware product cards.
- Open Dashboard → Selling.
- Enable Track add-to-cart events (keep page-aware cards on if you want PDP pitches).
- Save, then open a product page on the storefront, open Rivet, and complete an Add to cart from the card.
- Return to Selling and refresh the funnel after traffic accumulates.
Shopify merchants should use the Rivet App Embed so page context and cart actions stay aligned with the live theme.
Tips for cleaner data
- Keep catalog URLs/handles accurate so the right product is attributed.
- Test on the published theme; draft themes do not represent shopper traffic.
- Rivet avoids re-pitching a product after a successful ATC for that item in the session — so attribution reflects real interest, not endless prompts.
