Page-Aware Product Cards: Turn Shopify Product Pages into a Sales Clerk

What page-aware product cards are, how Rivet pitches the item a shopper is viewing, and how to enable them on Shopify without editing theme.liquid.

Most storefront chatbots wait for the shopper to type. On a product page, that wastes intent: the customer is already looking at a specific item.

Page-aware product cards fix that. Rivet Chat detects the product page the visitor is on and can show that product in the chat — image, price, link, and Add to cart — so the widget acts like a sales clerk on the page, not a generic FAQ bot.

What is a page-aware product card?

A page-aware product card is a structured chat card for the product currently being viewed. Rivet uses page context from the Shopify App Embed (and/or the product handle in the URL) plus your synced catalog so the card matches the live PDP.

You choose timing in Dashboard → Selling:

  • On chat open — pitch as soon as the bubble opens
  • On first message — wait until the shopper speaks

Rivet will not keep re-pitching a product the shopper already added to cart successfully.

Why this matters for conversion

On a PDP, shoppers ask size, stock, shipping, and “is this right for me?” A plain-text bot forces them to restate the product. A page-aware card:

  1. Confirms which item you are talking about
  2. Keeps price and image visible while they ask
  3. Lets them Add to cart without leaving the chat

That is why Rivet is built as a product-page sales assistant, not only a ticket helper.

How to enable page-aware cards on Shopify

  1. Install Rivet Chat from the Shopify App Store and open Setup.
  2. Enable the Rivet App embed on your published theme (Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds). No `theme.liquid` paste is required for this path.
  3. In Rivet Dashboard → Products, sync or import catalog rows that include handles / product URLs.
  4. Open Dashboard → Selling, turn on Page-aware cards, pick when to show, and save.
  5. Visit a live product URL, open the chat, and confirm the pitch and card.

If the card is missing: check the embed is on the live theme, the product has a handle/URL in Rivet, and Selling is enabled. More install help: Shopify chat widget not showing.

Page-aware cards vs Rules

  • Rules control how Rivet talks (tone, policies, what it must never say).
  • Selling controls when structured cards appear and ATC tracking.

Do not put “always auto-show the PDP card” only in Rules — use Selling.
